Founded in 1959, Chetla Agrani Club was originally known as Imperial Ground. It was renamed to Agrani Club by its visionary founders – Mr. Pradip Das, Mr. Giarsi Lal Gupta, Mr. Milan Roy, Mr. Bimal Mondal, and others – marking the beginning of a journey filled with celebration and camaraderie.

The club’s hallmark event, Kalipuja, was celebrated with grandeur, featuring elaborate pandals, horse carriage processions, and a lively atmosphere. Over the years, as the club grew, so did its activities, with sports events becoming a staple and welcoming numerous new members.

In 1970, the club officially became Chetla Agrani Club. This period saw the inception of the prestigious Agrani Football Tournament, which gained significant acclaim, even drawing the then Governor Sri Dharamvir as a chief guest.

By 1990, a temporary club room was built, and Kalipuja celebrations grew more elaborate with themed pandals. The club’s progress continued under the leadership of Mr. Firhad Hakim, now the Hon’ble Minister of Municipal and Urban Development, Government of West Bengal. His vision led to the construction of a modern concrete club house, supported financially by then MP Smt. Mamata Banerjee, now the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

The club’s journey saw further milestones, including the donation of the property to Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 2006, improvements in lighting, and enhanced facilities. The club embraced Durga Puja as its principal festival from 2007, and it has since become a leading name in festival celebrations in Kolkata.

Today, Chetla Agrani Club stands as one of the most renowned multi-activity clubs, offering a range of amenities including a swimming pool, snooker court, and more.
